  2. For this MEmorial, you could post videos of live war footage to help communicate what the war was like in reality since there was so much propaganda going on at that time.

  3. One could also add in sound bytes from veteran who went through the Vietnam War. The firsthand accounts would add a whole other dimension to the MEmorial.

  4. Another addition to this MEmorial may be some sort of ability to search through the names listed on the wall. This feature may help people connect on a more personal note as they may know someone who died in Vietnam.

  5. Something that goes along with these ideas would be to find Vietnam veterans and interview them to get their first hand side of the story. This would be an interesting way to see first hand stories, and their true emotions of the war.

  6. An interview would be a great idea. It would help other people really see that this was real and there are still people around that witnessed it. The news stations could put aside a week of honor for the veterans and cover soldiers who fought in the war that are still alive. It would show a deeper side to the war that most of us are not familiar with. It might motivate people to serve our country in the future.

  7. I agree that an interview would be the best source of getting information about Vietnam. My grandfather was in Vietnam and just by talking to him i have learned a lot of things. It shows you how passionate the veterans are about their country.

  8. Interviews with Veterans and Prisoner of War survivors would be very interesting to include in this MEmorial. Their stories would display how devoted and loyal to the country our soldiers were throughout the war.

  9. I believe that for this page to really jump at the reader there needs to be much more background information on just the war itself. There should also be links to other sites about the vietnam war, and also a link to a site about the citizens who died, which is what the memorial is for in the first place. Also, a few more pictures of the memorial would be great to show the reader what it is like.

  10. In this electronic memorial, I think we should use movie clips to engage the viewers. Although they are not the most accurate, they do give a little bit of insight as to what was going on over in Vietnam. Also we should include information covering the view from the Vietnamese. After all we were attacking their country.

  11. I like the aspect of including interviews with the Vietnamese people, their side of the story is not often heard. I think the memorial should also include an apology and thank you page to the soldiers who went over there and fought for our country. Most people were against the Vietnam war, and for this reason the soldiers who fought over there were not greeted with the warmest welcome when they returned, even though most of them did not go out of their own free will, instead they were drafted and were forced to go fight over there.

  12. I think that it should show some of the grittier parts of the war, because this was one of the most violent, and unfortunately hated, wars in American history. A good MEmorial should show why the soldiers were fighting against them, to protect others from suffering from the Vietcong

  13. I agree with what the others said about there should be interviews, videos, and infomation about the war. This MEmorial could also have links to websites that talks about the war.

  14. The Vietnam War has been publicized and addressed alot in the media, including recent movies such as "Across The Universe" In a MEmorial, i think that both sides of the war should be presented as a tragedy. There were many innocents killed in the war, and many American soldiers were killed as well. Overall, this would be a great topic to create a MEmorial because it was been such a huge tragedy at the time and it still is.

  15. Giving accounts of the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder that some of the soldiers went through would be a great tool in helping people understand how the war actually affected these men and women. May need to get interviews for this idea...

  16. Adding personal perspectives of the war either through interviews, old letters, or live footage would be great in this MEmorial. Pictures of the war would communicate what it was like very well too.

  17. I think it would be good to add personal perspectives as Charles said. Actual footage of the war and video interviews with veterans would really cause the viewer to feel really understand what the war was like.

  18. It would be a good idea to get accounts from the soldiers who fought there. The interviews should not only talk about the war but also how the soldiers felt coming home. The war was not supported like other wars, so getting the soldiers' perspective on how it was leaving and coming back would be interesting.

  19. I think it would be powerful if pictures were placed online along with the names of all of those who lost their lives. Pictures turn names into humans with families and lives.

  20. Since this war is more recent, it easier to create an electronic memorial. It can be a combination of war footage and interviews, as well as inserting the reasons why people protested the war.

  21. I think that to make this a MEmorial one could take accounts both the soldiers participating in the war. Furthermore, to show the war's effect on families and surviving soldiers, videos of the families and veterans of them walking through the memorial could be taken and posted online.

  22. A great addition to this MEmorial would be to remind the audience that the Vietnam War didn't end on the final day for surviving soldiers. They have relived the tragedy every day, mentally scarred and many physically disabled.

  23. The MEmorial should include interviews, photos, videos, speeches, propaganda, and statistics on causalities, business, and public opinion during the time period. It was so heavily protested during the time as well. It would be necessary to include the accounts and content of these war protests in America. As the war was highly controversial, so was the creation of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. I think it would be cool to incorporate information of the actual memorial into the MEmorial to strengthen it. Many viewed the Maya Lin's, the designer, concept as a dark gash of shame. In actuality, it was meant to symbolize the gravity of the loss of the soldiers. I think the same concept should be served through the MEmorial, but a more interactive way. Because of electracy, so much more information can be presented to an audience. As stated by another student, I think the long term consequences and repressions for soldiers who did make it home should be stated. Information on the draft should be included, due to the large controversy surrounding that as well.

  24. I think that the best way to bring about sympathy for the soldiers would be to show horrific footage of the war and then contrast it against the footage of those same soldiers returning from battle only to be spit upon and denoted by other American citizens. Through this, the importance of a memorial becomes even more clear to honor the soldiers who sacrificed so much by going to war. I also think that it would be important to include statistics from both the American and Viet Kong casualties as both sides lost a horrific amount of lives. Finally, pictures of Vietnam before and after the war could be used to show the devastating effects of the war.

  25. The memorial could include the accounts of those fighting within vietnam as well as those on he home front to integrate the two accounts of the war. The memorial could also include first hand accounts of the war that displayed courage and perseverance during times of hardship.

  26. Vietnam was a hard war for the men fighting it. Pictures of soldiers having fun and smiling would be a nice asset to add to the MEmorial. These pictures would allow people to see the men that fought but without disrespecting the great soldiers.

  27. The MEmorial could also include the experiences of soldiers from both sides and how they related or differed from one another, as well as individual war stories to draw the viewer in more.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Just like the WWII MEmorial, the Vietnam MEmorial should highlight actual stories and interviews over statistics. Movies and stories allow us to connect with those who were in Vietnam. A name look up would be nice as well, since it was really hard to find someones name on the wall in real life, so it would allow people to find names before visiting the real memorial.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I agree with all of the interviews and personal war stories that would show what actually happened in Vietnam. In addition there should also be a section for the why the U.S. was involved.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I feel that there was a horrible lack of background information for the war, and what led up to it. I believe that a description should be placed on the site that mentions the notable officers in charge, such as General MacArthur. The site should also show respect to the innocent Vietnamese that lost their lives throughout the course of the war.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think adding some news clips or video clips would be a good idea for this MEmorial. Also, including a few audio clips of generals or president talking would really ad to the effect of how the war went.

    ReplyDelete
  32. So much emphasis is put on the causes of the war, and how many lives were lost, but what about after the war? so much is done to a countries economy and its infrastructure in war the the aftermath can take years to fade away, for both sides. this wound should be highlighted as well

    ReplyDelete
  33. Having emphasis on the causes of war and how many lives were lost are just as important as the aftermath. Knowing the causes and effects can help prevent these causes from reoccurring.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I also liked what Charles was thinking about including actual videos. This would give a true feel of the violence that actually took place, and would make the public realize how much bravery and honor these soldiers had.
